Catalogue of Group Kit Available to Borrow

Fancy trying a show with the Cardiff Castle Garrison but don’t have any kit yet? The Garrison has group kit available for you to borrow so you can take part. Below is a catalogue of the kit that is available and if you wish to borrow any of it then please contact our living history officer about the items(s) at cardiffcastlegarrison@outlook.com. Group kit is allocated on a first come first served basis and we often have several people who would like to borrow kit for show dates, so get your requests in early if possible.

To give members an idea of what our group kit looks like when worn, the group member second from left is wearing a group kit ensemble.

The UK clothing sizes given for each item are approximate. The measurements are exact so if you are unsure whether a garment will fit then it may be best to measure yourself. You can either ask the living history officer to do this at a group social, or take them yourself. There is guidance on how to do this below. All measurements below are given in inches.

Measurements

If you would like to measure yourself to ensure any group garments you wish to borrow will fit you, then please follow this guidance:

Ladies:

You will need to measure your bust, waist, hips, and fists (the fist measurement is to ensure your hands will be able to fit through garment sleeves). Do not worry too much about the length measurement unless you are exceptionally tall, as our dresses are fairly long.

Gentlemen:

You will need to measure your chest, waist, arms, and fist (the fist to ensure that your hands will be able to fit through garment sleeves). Do not worry too much about length of garments unless you are exceptionally tall, as our tunics are fairly long.

Please note that the kit displayed here is not necessarily of the best standards of authenticity; unfortunately, the Garrison relies on donations from group members for this kit, which is often a few years old and not representative of current authenticity standards. However, these items remain useful while they have life left in them, therefore they are kept as group kit, but they will not be replaced on a like for like basis. We ask that group members do not take group kit as an example of current authenticity standards.
