Ever wanted to shoot a longbow or swing a sword? How about learning some traditional crafts or come camping in historic locations around the UK? With the Garrison you can!

The Cardiff Castle Garrison primarily re-enact the military and social life of the garrison of the Lord Despenser, who lived in Cardiff Castle in 1370. We teach archery and how to fight with swords, spears and axes, training in leisure centres and a scenic medieval village. We also learn how to make period clothing and do medieval crafts such as spinning, tablet weaving, leatherworking and armour making.

From Easter until September, we attend re-enactment events around the UK, often sleeping in medieval tents, eating medieval food and fighting in pitched battles against armoured knights, archers, handgunners and cannon!

Throughout the rest of the year we hold lots of social events, both medieval and non-medieval, including trips to castles, parties, kit-making and crafting sessions, and bi-annual trips to the re-enactors’ market at Coventry.
